Shooting Victim Recovery Fund: Tweet

$10.00

On March 1 of 2023, we acquired a dope house in South Memphis.  As Ben was pulling onto the street to close it out, an attempted murder, robbery and carjacking happened in front of the house.  The victim happened to be one of the addicts we've been working to save.  Below (and in photos) are snippets from the affidavit.

The victim was shot a total of five times, the narcotics trafficker responsible is finally in custody, and we're raising funds to help him get back on his feet.  He is now clean, has been to treatment, and we'll assist every step of the way on his recovery journey.

He lost every single thing he owned in that car, and a huge piece of himself in the shooting.

We are working to raise money to replace his vehicle and get him into some sort of school, classes, certification---something---while he's still on the long road to recovery from almost being murdered.

"On March 1, 2023, Memphis Police responded to a shooting call at 1398 Woodward, where the victim, Horatio Robinson, had been shot multiple times. Robinson advised that he was called to the location by a friend of his, and once he arrived, he was approached by several individuals, some armed with firearms. The individuals demanded Robinson's property, took $1,500 cash from Robinson, and then started shooting at Robinson. Robinson stated that after he was shot one of the individuals fled the scene in his 2008 Lexus ES350. Robinson was struck twice in the arm, once in the stomach, once in the back, and grazed in the back of his head. On March 13, 2023, Investigators met with Robinson at Regional One, where he provided a statement regarding theincident.

Robinson stated that one of the individuals involved in the incident was a friend of his known as Michael Wallace. On March 23, 2023, Robinson arrived at the VCU Office and positively identified Wallace in a six-person photo lineup as one of the individuals responsible for the incident. Robinson also stated that he asked Wallace to call an ambulance after being shot and that Wallace looked at him, smiled, and walked away.

We Are The Dead

We are the Dead is a sister organization to Flanders Fields, to carry their mission to those encountered on the streets, on the dope track, in the prisons and in the hell of addiction or sex trafficking who aren't veterans. Nobody on the Flanders team will step over the dead bodies of civilians to save a vet, but within the confines of the charter, funding can only be allocated to veterans. The need to stand up a second org focused on non-veteran funding for rescues and recoveries was immediately apparent, and to date, the Flanders team has been funding these efforts out of their own pockets, but no more! We are the Dead gets it's name from the same poem by LtCol John McCrae that Flanders Fields got it's name from, which reads in part: "

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields."

We are here to restore life to those who were once dead to their addictions and the streets, for we were once the dead ourselves.
